Our approach

Dorcas implements relief and development projects in Western Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap state which are charaterized by:

Integrated Development: Dorcas understands the multi-faceted nature of poverty and aims to address the causes in an integrated manner during long-term presence in selected locations.

Inclusive Development: Dorcas targets vulnerable people irrespective of race, religion, gender and political affiliation. Dorcas goes an extra mile to reach specific vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, women and elderly and address their particular needs.

Participation & Empowerment: Dorcas beliefs that beneficiary participation and empowerment is a pre-condition for sustainable development as it enables beneficiaries to take a leading role in addressing their own needs.

Disaster Risk Reduction: Dorcas pro-actively works on disaster risk reduction in the project locations in order to prevent and/or mitigate disasters and build resilience of people living in disaster prone areas.

Peace & Reconciliation: Dorcas integrates Peace & Reconciliation in all programs given the volatile and instable nature of the country and project locations which is a threat to sustainability of development. Dorcas contributes to the empowerment and inclusion of its target groups irrespective of race, religion, gender and political affiliation.

Cooperation: Dorcas cooperates with government authorities and other national and international relief and development organizations to stimulate coordination, create synergies, contribute to capacity development and advocate for an enabling enviornment for the poor to flourish.
